“Greater Alwal Allied Service Association” or “GAASA” was formed in 1987 on the principle of collective strength, duties and Rights, under Alwal Municipality. GAASA is now strong with around 41 Resident Welfare Associations of various colonies as its members and partners in its endeavor to make Alwal a better place. GAASA works on the idea that sincerity coupled with open representation and a candid dialogue with Authorities can obtain for ourselves the best that which we are entitled for. GAASA also does not believe in blowing its own trumpet and works silently. Based on such beliefs GAASA has over 28 years achieved for Citizens of Alwal;
reduction in Water and property taxes, improved frequency of bus services to Alwal from various depots and got connected interior areas of Alwal to bus services, erection of two 33 KV Sub-Stations to bring down the power interruptions and improve voltage, got diverted the effluents flowing into Alwal from cantonment areas, sanitary conditions were got improved, upgraded the water pump house at Alwal, a telegraph office, open grounds were got demarcated and protected for use as playgrounds and parks (this example was followed in all GHMC circles), creation of playgrounds out of open GHMC grounds; installation of street lighting from Golnaka X roads to Loyola Academy and Satya Petrol pump to Venkatapuram X Roads, the culvert opposite to Reliance stores on Old Alwal Road was got repaired and a better culvert provided, removal of garbage dumping at Temple Alwal, got Hon’ble High Court of A P to pass orders to provide New Library at Old Alwal, laying and improving drainage system for Tirumala Enclave, Father Balaiah Nagar, Venkatramana Colony, Manjeera Nagar, B.R.Rao Colonies to the open rain water storm drain,
and many more civic amenities were procured for ourselves which has been the underlying factor at GAASA. GAASA does not rest here with its achievements but is actively pursuing authorities for achieving many more amenities such as;
Computerization of property tax records, renovation of the Alwal Railway Station, more Green Cover to our Alwal Area on theme “WE PLANT, WE PROTECT”, proper measures for purity and adequate supply of drinking water, drainage lines be laid after proper survey, repair of damaged roads, streetlights in all colonies, provision of pavements for the residents on both sides of the roads under the purview of GHMC Alwal, speed breakers be provided on all roads where pedestrian traffic is severe, a reading room and day care Center for senior citizens under “AASARA” scheme of GHMC, checking illegal constructions, check encroachment of lakes and public lands, ensuring implementation of rain water harvesting pits as a compulsory measure for raising water table, putting up of Traffic signals at major cross roads, running of RTC shuttle service between Golnaka to Kompally and provide bus shelters at all bus stops, rationalise Vacant Land Tax and advertisement tax, check quality of food in food stalls, hotels, check mosquito menace, more public toilets on Sulabh model, beautification of both the lakes in Alwal and its protection etc.
Further GAASA also wishes that the residents act responsibly by avoiding plastic, control wastage of drinking water, not to construct ramps leading to their houses by encroaching on public roads, pay taxes on time, get rain water harvest pits in their houses, stop using water pumps to draw drinking water, drilling borewells without permissions, not to encourage unlicensed food stalls and much more civic sense etc.. Further GAASA want to involve the residents to maintain sanitation, streetlights and parks to complement the efforts of GHMC Alwal.
We at GAASA feel that the time and situation now demands that the collective strength of the residents needs to be further expanded. The need now is, for you, to put in your best efforts to support GAASA, for a combined and selfless effort to help Greater Alwal grow to be a model suburb and the Jewel in the Crown of Greater Hyderabad.
